Parish Record Name Index - Laois Genealogy

NOTE: There is a difference to the index from here on in that I have taken on board advice from people on the Y-IRL list and am including how many times the name appears in the set of records and whether the name appears as that of a child, parent or sponsor in my files. So, C=Child, F=Father, M=Mother and S=Sponsor. Fx2 means the name appears as father to two children, Fx3, father to three and so on. Mx2=mother to two children, Cx2 more than one child of that name baptised in the year. C,F or C,M = Child & father with the same name or child and mother with the same name in that year. I am also removing all questionable names in this index from this point forward but the questionables will remain in any parish index I bring on-line. I have only changed the entries for one parish so far, and will perhaps manage to work my way through one a day from now on - 5th May 2009

The following names all occur in various Roman Catholic parish registers of County Laois or Queen's County which I have transcribed. I have created an index of names including those of sponsors or witnesses for baptisms and marriages which I have transcribed - this index contains in excess of 12,000 names. If a name occurs in one register more than once for the same year, I have deleted the repeats from my index. I have left those names which do repeat but which are spelled differently. Some of the names below can be found in the various Parish Register Index pages I have created and placed on this website to date. The rest and more will appear on this website in the future. In this index, you see a name, a year and a parish register. To find out how much information is contained on site re that name, you have to go to the parish register index or extract *if* it is already on-line. If you cannot find it, then please call back as as all these records are going to be put on-line. Do not contact me to ask what information I have re any of the names. I do not have time to search through my files as I am already giving as much of my time as I can to bringing the index on-line and once it is finished, the extra files.

It's only got a few members so far, but then again, once upon a time Y-IRL the Yahoo group which I created back in 2001 had only a few members and today, it's one of the largest Irish Genealogy groups on the internet
