The graveyard in Ballybuggy is the old Roman Catholic graveyard for the parish of Rathdowney. I've left some of the photographs which show how few stones still stand in this graveyard. It's possible to see some of the marker stones - stones which wouldn't have had any names on them, marking that a grave was at the spot. Some people used to make their own stones with their name and no date of death carved onto them and then bring these to the graveyard to put over the plot that they would be buried in. I remember a friend telling me of the fact that he had gone to Ballybuggy with his Grandfather after his Grandfather had carved his stone and he stood beside him as he placed that stone over his plot, and my friend was upset because he as an adult could not today find his Grandfathers stone in this graveyard. That was a few years ago, the graveyard has been cleaned up since.
