Heads
of Household 1901 Census County Laois or Queen's Co. Coolkerry
Civil Parish - Barony
of Clarmallagh Poor
Law Union of Abbeyleix District Electoral Division : Grantstown & Kilnaseer
The National Archives of Ireland 1901 census Film reference for Coolkerry Civil Parish is DED 22 & 24 The records for this parish are out of order on the census films. Under normal circumstances each DED is divided into a number of sub-divisions representing the townlands within that DED, e.g. 22 is the DED number, but there may be 10 townlands in that DED, each townland is given a reference number 22/1, 22/2, 22/3 and so on until all the townlands in the DED have been numbered and the next DED is reached such as 23, then the numbering of the townlands in that DED begins, 23/1, 23/2 etc. The various DED's on any film run consecutively as in 22 comes first and then all the townlands in 22 one after the other. Then, 23 and the townlands in that DED. The records for Coolkerry are not where they should be on the films and unless one goes through the whole film, one gets the impression that they are missing. There were 22 Heads of Household or families living in the Laois section of Cloydagh civil parish in 1901 The townland of Coolnaboul East was unoccupied. This page may undergo revision as I need to check whether a particular townland with four families which I have noted as belonging to Coolkerry parish actually belonged to Coolkerry in 1901 as it is listed as being part of Rathdowney in 1851. Index to the Heads of Household in this parish, 1901 Census of Ireland Surnames B-W
